Commercial due diligence for a PPE firm

CF were approached to provide commercial due diligence for an established PPE firm. Following increased sales the to healthcare market as part of the pandemic response, the provider was looking for insight into their ability to expand further into the market and establish their presence beyond the immediate scope of the pandemic response. CF undertook market analysis and examined the likely trajectory of PPE market through engagement and activity analysis over 3-5 years. We modelled the overall healthcare market and provided usage ratios through engagement with clinicians, procurement leads, infection prevention and control experts and finance leads nationally. The company received significant investment as a result of this exercise.

What was the challenge?

The PPE firm are market leaders in the manufacture and supply of PPE and have grown their position in the UK healthcare sector, as a result of the overwhelming demand for PPE throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. This growth came from increasing production to meet demand, meeting the demands of several large contracts for FFP3 masks with the Scottish and UK governments, whilst maintaining a consistent pricing structure. The firm have several differentiators in a competitive market which places them strongly to grow their position: sustainability credentials, quality, fit testing capabilities and price.

What did we do?

CF undertook Vendor Due Diligence during Covid-19 to support the firm to expand in the market. To do so, it was important that the rapidly changing nature of the PPE market was carefully considered. Central to this was understanding where the PPE landscape is currently and the likely trajectory, in the context of developments in the last 12-months for the disease landscape, users and buyers in order to anticipate the likely structure and size of the future PPE market.

What was the impact?

This resulted in the firm securing new investment to help meet growth ambitions in the UK and European markets, in June 2021. Following this initial due diligence work, CF then supported the firm’s ambitions further, to expand into the healthcare sector on a more sustainable basis following Covid-19. CF explored overall usage, consumer preference, and procurement behaviour to develop a comprehensive set of recommendations to support the firm’s expansion.
